Bodensee Consulting

As a trial project to join the Bodensee Consulting student consultancy, I had to design a Whitepaper from scratch according to corporate design guidelines.

Just one month into my studies I decided to join the local student consultancy Bodensee Consulting e.V.

In order to be accepted as a member, you would have to prove your skills in an application phase, that consisted of several training sessions and a sample project that had to be mastered in groups of 4 candidates.

My group’s project was to create a white paper template and a usage example, that shows potential future customers how a past project similar to their needs has been solved.

The team consisted of one Master and one Bachelors student in Economics, a Bachelors in Politics and Administration as well as me. We teamed up and joined forces during the Braining Storming and Planning phase, while later dividing tasks to single persons.

I took on the responsibility of coming up with an appealing design. Therefor I signed up for a trial of Lucidpress (now called marq) to shape the whitepaper’s appearance.

A large part of the challenge was coming into possession of high quality graphics resources that match the Coporate Design of the student consultancy. Colors would have to match exactly - not just vaguely. So, I wrote some Java code with Swing and AWT.

You can find the code, which produced the above patterns publicly in my GitHub repository bodensee-consulting-patterns. Additionally, a lot of work was done using the free and open source image editor GIMP.

This ultimately led me to taking on several roles at the JCNetwork (umbrella organization of German student consultancies) over the next few years, since its CIO at that time, Anthony Plath was also present during the final presentation of that project and noticed the coding effort that went into this piece of work.

You can follow up on the subsequent story of my role in the JCNetwork by looking at the Jobs page or the first of those occupations as an IT Administrator.

App Development

Android app development is what got me into computer science. I started learning about this topic while still in the 12th and final year of high school.
